Bomet University College (inset) is set to receive its charter to become a fully-fledged university later this year.
Speaking during the institution’s Fourth Annual International Innovation Conference, University Council Chairperson Prof. Simon Mitema stated that the charter award process is on track, with the goal of securing the award by August, ahead of the December graduation.
“We are committed to ensuring that all necessary requirements for charter acquisition are in place by August, allowing this year’s students to graduate from here in December,” Professor Mitema said.
Bomet University College is currently a constituent college of Moi University.
However, the administration has cited logistical challenges arising from the long distance between Bomet and the main Moi University campus in Eldoret, underscoring the need for a self-governing charter.
The 4th Bomet University College Annual International Conference was held alongside the second Open Day and Innovation Competition at the college grounds.
Commercialization for Sustainability” was aligned to the niche the college has carved for itself through the slogan ‘Greening for Sustainability.’
Several innovators got an opportunity to showcase their innovations besides interacting with others and getting an opportunity to learn more.
During the function, Bomet Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok reinforced the council’s commitment to meet the charter award, pledging his administration’s support to ensure the college meets charter requirements.
“As Governor, I will work closely with the university to achieve charter status by August,” the governor said.
