EACC signs MoU with the National Youth Council to deepen partnership

The Ethics and Corruption Commission (EACC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Youth Council to deepen its collaboration and partnership in the fight against corruption and promotion of good governance in the country.

Speaking during a ceremony, the EACC Chairman, Bishop David Oginde, described the partnership as strategic and a very critical step in the fight against corruption in the country.

Bishop Oginde stated that the youth and the society at large suffer the corrosive effects of corruption and bad governance hence the need for collaborative efforts to fight the vice through the general citizenry including the youth.

The EACC Chairman observed that corruption is a moral crisis, and the youth provide the hope and opportunity to provide a collective effort to advocate for the integrity in society.

Oginde further reiterated that the partnership with the youth is critical since the youth have the energy, the voice and creativity to innovative solutions to the current challenges in the country.

He consequently challenged the youth to use their numbers to stand for integrity in society and take up their positions in advocating for honesty.

The MoU is aimed at establishing formal and structured ways of engagement between the Commission and the Youth in preventing and combating corruption and economic crimes, engage with the youth in promotion of ethics and integrity and to promote sharing of knowledge, experience and resources that are mutually beneficial to both parties.

Further, the MoU will provide platforms for collaboration on the areas of empowerment and capacity building of the youth, information sharing, corruption prevention and review policy and legal frameworks on good governance and fight against corruption.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Principal Secretary, the State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, Fikirini Jacobs stated that the Youth will provide an invaluable contribution in the fight against corruption through the creation of awareness and advocacy against corruption by using the social media.

Fikirini called for the support of the Commission and the Council in implementing the MoU.

The PS, further, expressed his commitment to partnerships geared towards improving the lives of the youth general besides advocating for the youth transformation agenda in the country.

In his remarks, the EACC CEO Abdi Mohamud welcomed the partnership as timely and very critical since the collaboration with the youth is part of the Commission’s wider strategies of enlisting the support of the public in the fight against corruption.

Mohamud assured of the Commission’s commitment in implementing the MoU to realize its objectives. 

The signing ceremony of the MoU was witnessed by the EACC commissioners and senior officers of the National Youth Council led by the Acting CEO Ms Gloria Wawira and the Chairperson of the KEPSA Youth Sector Board Chair Ms Carolyne Warui.

The MOU will also engage the youth in the promotion of ethics and integrity and promote sharing of knowledge, experience and resources that are mutually beneficial to both parties.

Through the MOU, EACC and the National Youth Council will collaborate in the areas of empowerment, corruption prevention, education and public awareness, promotion of ethics and integrity, information sharing, reviewing policy and legal frameworks.
