On his part, the Nairobi University Veterinary Medicine lecturer Prof. Henry Mutembei said that the campaign will be steered by a team of 75 volunteers from his Department who will work closely with officers from the county government.

Mutembei disclosed that the team is the first batch in Africa to be trained in animal disaster response, adding that they will capacity build the county’s livestock staff in handling emergences.

“As pioneers in managing animal disasters, we will empower county staff, who will in turn induct farmers in handling emergencies whenever they occur,” added the veterinary lecturer.
