First Lady Margaret Kenyatta on Tuesday said that Beyond Zero campaign aims to touch every citizen and to improve the health of every Kenyan wherever they are.

She said the success of the initiative depends largely on its roll-out at the grassroots and requires the involvement of everyone.

The First Lady spoke when she hosted officials of the Big Win Foundation which is a spin-off the Children’s Investment Fund who paid her a courtesy call at State House.

The officials were led by the founder and chairperson of the Fund Ms Jamie Anne Cooper and included the  Chief Executive Officer Dr. Muhammad Ali and Senior Manager for Strategy and Programs Ms Nalini Tarakeshwar and Ms Patricia Mugambi who is the African representative of the Foundation.

The officials are seeking to partner with the Beyond Zero campaign on matters of health and advocacy among other development issues.

The Beyond Zero campaign focuses on health issues related to the survival of mothers and children, reduction of HIV/Aids and advocacy on related matters including dissuading communities that still practice Female Genital Mutilation (GFM) to abandon the  retrogressive culture and adopt alternative rites of passage.

So far, the initiative has delivered a total of 34 fully kitted mobile clinics to an equal number of counties, the latest being Mandera and Embu . The clinics are multi-purpose and are aimed at assisting mothers deliver in healthy environments, immunization, and HIV/Aids testing among other health concerns right at the grassroots.

The First Lady said she chose the marathon running model to raise both awareness and mobilize funds for the Beyond Zero campaign because the sport was already popular and  is also a good way to improve health.

Ms Cooper said her team has been in the country for a  few days and had toured Korogocho slums, Pumwani Maternity Hospital and met with Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero to discuss  issues related to the youth, children and health .

Also present during the occasion was the Director of Medical Services, Dr Nicholas Muragauri.
