The Director General, State Department of Basic Education Leah Rotich (centre), Patrick Ochich of the Kenya National Examination Council (left) and Head of National Assessment Centre Assumpta Matei display copies of the National Assessment System for Monitoring Learner Achievement (NASMLA) report at Kenya Institute of Curriculum during its launch on 17th January 2017.
The report that was carried  in all the 47 counties by a technical committee from the education ministry  recommended that parents and Boards of Management be educated on the need to adhere to the school entry age policy and adopt alternative means of instilling discipline among pupils such as enhancing guidance and counseling programmes with qualified counsellors.
It also called on the ministry to identify strengths and weaknesses in leaner achievement so that curriculum and teaching interventions can be targeted for maximum  effect among other recommendations.[Photo:Boniface Malinda/KNA]
