The Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Natural Resources Prof Judi Wakhungu on Thursday launched the digital literacy programme (DLP) at Karen C Primary School in Nairobi County.
The programme that was rolled out by the government a month ago is set to ensure that all standard one pupils in all public primary schools receive the devices to help them learn and explore new ways of doing things.
Speaking during the event where class one pupils in the school received 80 devices, Prof Wakhungu noted that this was just one among the many projects being undertaken by the government to transform lives of its citizenry.
The programme is being undertaken with support from the private sector and has seen over 500 devices distributed to four (4) public primary schools in Nairobi County. It is expected to lead to revolution in the education and ICT sector, transform lives and open unlimited opportunities to the children of this country.
The piloting of the programme was done in 150 schools countrywide and the roll out is ongoing in all the counties. The devices are locally assembled and will be distributed to nearly 1 million class one pupils in 23,000 public primary schools.
